More about Deryck

Deryck joined Brown Henderson Melbye in 2022 as an associate counsel. In addition to family law, he practices civil litigation with a focus in privacy and defamation, as well as criminal law.

Deryck can regularly be found in court advocating for his clients in high conflict and property division cases. When out of court, Deryck strives to apply alternate dispute resolution techniques to bring about creative solutions for his client’s problems. Deryck is a keen advocate for his clients and advises on all stages of family law matters, including pre-marital and cohabitation agreements (also known as prenups or prenuptial agreements); initial divorce and separation proceedings; separation agreements; parenting time plans; litigation; and enforcement.

As a keen techie, Deryck is well versed in technology and its significant role in people’s lives.

From humble origins, Deryck grew up in Boston Bar, British Columbia where he worked at his parents’ garage from a young age. After graduating high school, Deryck attended at the University of Victoria where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in British History and English Literature. Deryck remained at UVic for his Master’s Degree in History before attending Thompson Rivers University where he completed his Juris Doctorate in 2018.

In his spare time, Deryck enjoys travelling, reading, cooking, and trap shooting. In addition to being a lawyer, Deryck is a published author and photographer. He is also the proud step-dad to two boys and proud uncle to his five nieces and nephews.
