Cara Finkelstein – Legal Assistant

Cara hKeri_Coles_Photography_BHM_083as always had an interest in law while growing up in Courtenay. Both of her parents have careers in the legal field. Cara attended Bishop’s University and the University of Victoria to study psychology and sociology but left to do the Legal Office Assistant Program, and is hoping that law school is in her future. Cara is very comfortable in and really enjoys the law office environment, especially with the presence of the beloved office dog, Dyson.

If you spend a few minutes talking to Cara you will find out very quickly that she loves dogs. She has always had at least one dog growing up and recently adopted a Chihuahua mix named Fig. She will be the first to tell you that having a dog in your life makes everything better. More specifically, she is very interested in learning about canine behaviour, psychology, training and participating in sports like agility. In the past, Cara has worked at a vet clinic and a dog daycare. While now working in a law office, she volunteers with the Victoria Humane Society and for Raincoast Dog Rescue through which she adopted Fig. In her spare time Cara likes to go for walks along Dallas Rd, have adventures with Fig, explore dog parks, and to read, hike, and spend time with friends.

She has a personal goal of owning a house with a big, dog-friendly yard with a strong fence and lots of space to roam.

Cara completed the Legal Office Assistant program at Camosun College in August 2014, and is continuing her career as a legal assistant. She did her practicum at Brown Henderson Melbye and ended up joining the BHM law office team. She feels very fortunate to be working with such a wonderful group. At BHM, Cara has developed a special interest in drafting different types of Agreements as well as drafting estate planning documents; Cara is also in the process of developing her skills in legal research.

Cara is currently furthering her education by studying to be a paralegal through Capilano University’s online Paralegal program. She is enjoying the program, which includes Legal Analysis, Torts, Contracts, Insurance Law, Litigation Procedures, Conveyancing Procedures, Legal Research, Legal Drafting and Legal Interviewing. Cara is looking forward to becoming a certified paralegal and is excited about broadening her breadth of knowledge in the legal field.
