On September 29, 2017, lawyers and staff from BHM attended Families Matter, a silent auction fundraiser for the Family Services of Greater Victoria (previously B.C. Families in Transition). Two of our lawyers, Shauna Tucker and Samantha de Wit, are on the Board of Directors for Family Services of Greater Victoria and assisted in organizing the fundraising event.
Our lawyers and family lawyers throughout the greater Victoria area regularly refer clients to the wide array of services offered by Family Services of Greater Victoria. Many of these same lawyers were in attendance at the fundraising event in support of the great work done there.
The Family Services of Greater Victoria services include the following:
- Counselling for youth, adults, couples and families
- Group programs like Caught in the Middle, Parenting with a new partner and a men’s group
- Information sessions like Parenting After Separation and Finances After Separation
- Mediation for couples and for teens and their parents
- Legal support
More information or how to donate can be found at their website at www.fsgv.org or by contacting the Family Services of Greater Victoria at 250-386-4331.
The fundraiser was held at the Odd Fellows Hall in downtown Victoria, with live music by Devon Hanley, and various silent and live auction items up for grabs.
All funds raised will go towards the expenses associated with their recent move to 1004 North Park Street, Victoria BC after their previous building was sold to developers, and in particular setting the space up for the services offered by Family Services of Greater Victoria.
The event was such a success that there are talks of doing it again in future.
