BHM lawyers travelled to the other coast of Canada in July to attend the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s National Family Law Program in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Conference attracted lawyers, judges and academics from across the country.
Trudi Brown co-chaired the program with Mr. Justice R. James Williams of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court’s family division. Suzanne Williams co-presented with the Honourable Justice Donna J. Martinson who is a retired judge of the BC and Yukon Supreme Courts. Kay Melbye also attended the program and all brushed up on the latest Family Law developments in Canada and internationally. Topics included divorce, spousal support, family property division, child support and parenting time with more nuanced topics such as pension division, tax implications, international child abduction and professional ethics also covered.
The four day conference and Newfoundland hospitality were outstanding!
