Kaytlyn Steele – Legal Assistant
Kaytlyn was born in Cuilapa, Santa Rosa, Guatemala and raised in Victoria. She had a Legal Assistant Program in her future.
Kaytlyn graduated Claremont Secondary School in 2011 and completed the Legal Office Assistant Program at Camosun College in 2013. Kaytlyn’s training at Camosun included Conveyancing, Wills and Estates, and Corporate and Business Law, in addition to Family Law. Kaytlyn, however, is most interested in Family Law and enjoys being the person to listen to client concerns, as well as, helping to assist clients through what can be a very difficult time in their lives.
After completing the Legal Assistant Program, Kaytlyn worked at Salmond Ashurst as a Legal Office Assistant. Kaytlyn’s mother worked as a legal assistant at Brown Henderson Melbye, and Kaytlyn always enjoyed family law. So she found her way to BHM, and started in reception and assisted other assistants in their filing.
Kaytlyn likes the legal assistant program and environment and learning about what brought the clients to the firm and helping them with their situation. She plans to take a paralegal course within the next few years. Meanwhile, she enjoys working at BHM and after work she focuses on her health and fitness and works with a personal trainer at a local gym.
Kaytlyn also likes how close everything is in Victoria. She enjoys being active outside. Her family breeds Brittany Spaniels which are a type of hunting dog, and Kaytlyn owns three of them. Usually on weekends she can be seen biking around Victoria in the nice weather or found up island with the dogs. She likes to find new hiking trails with the dogs.
Professionally, she attends the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association dinners, where they offer legal assistant program education courses and seminars presented by members of the Victoria Bar Association. Many topics are addressed by speakers, and business networking happens. BHM’s Trudi L. Brown and Shauna Tucker have spoken at VSLA dinners. Kaytlyn would like to learn more about Wills and Estates, because that work connects more with the clients.
